Since our arrival in 1856,

the monks and craftsmen of Saint John’s Abbey have utilized local resources for their buildings and furniture. Walk anywhere on campus and you’ll soon recognize the distinctive furniture that has comes from Abbey Woodworking.

Today, we honor this 150 year tradition of woodworking at Saint John’s by continuing to use our hands and local resources as a witness to the values of manual labor, sustainability and an honest use of materials. But more than a witness, we seek to continue mentoring others who wish to understand the art and techniques of woodworking through student work, apprenticeship and volunteer opportunities.
