Mid-Century Modern Chairs Brought Back to Life

One of the advantages of crafting furniture out of solid wood is that after many years of use it can be sanded, repaired, and refinished to look like new.  For over 50 years, the chairs of the dormitories at Saint John’s have faced heavy use (and abuse at times.)  As some were being replaced this summer, we were able to secure a good number of them to restore and put back into service.  While many of these chairs will remain on campus, a limited number were sold to alumni at this summer's reunion for Saint John's alumni. Whether they wanted to own a piece of history or are simply fans of mid-century design, we were glad to see many people excited about these chairs.
